Our Approach

Our Approach

Our enriched programs are designed with the needs of children in mind. We acknowledge the fact that formative years are crucial because of their ability to absorb information as well as their never-ending curiosity about their surroundings. We plan the day to allow for opportunities to provide structure and flexibility and to include quiet activity, large and small group work, and indoor and outdoor active play.

The program at Pleasant Child Care is Emergent approach where children’s interest is key in developing our program to enhance their developments. Our educators develop and adopt their program by observing and listening to the children building on their existing strengths and knowledge.

Program Philosophy
Children learn through play and our program provides a unique opportunity for social, physical, emotional, intellectual and creative development through play in early years. We make every effort to provide a stimulating and challenging program for children and families in our community regardless of race, colour, sex and economic circumstances. The goals and objectives of our programs are:

  • Recognize that every child is an individual with their own needs and interests; we make every effort to meet the needs of all the children and make reasonable accommodations to embrace differences and abilities
  • Provide opportunities to program around the children’s needs, interests and ideas
  • Help the child develop social awareness through interaction with other children and with responsible, accepting adults
  • Provide opportunities for maximum parent involvement and co-operation
  • Provide opportunities for the children to play together, to share with others and have fun

Extra-Curricular Activities
Our Pleasant center offers a variety of extra-curricular activities for our kindergarten and school-age children as part of the regular after school program at no extra charge. Examples include martial arts, sports, or dance. Additionally, all children enjoy special events and field trips organized on PA days and during the holidays.

Volunteers and Students
Our center works with community volunteers who provide assistance to the staff on special occasions and selected field trips. We are also a training facility for RECE candidates in training.

It is the policy of Pleasant Child Care that only employees will have direct unsupervised access to children. Volunteers and students do not count in the staffing ratios and are never left alone with the children. No child is supervised by a person under18 years of age. All volunteers and students must:

  • Complete a standard application form in order to establish suitability for placement within the Centre
  • Have a Criminal Reference Check completed prior to their involvement with the children at the Centre. Co-Op students under the age of 18 are exempted.
  • Have a health assessment and immunization(s) as recommended by the local medical officer of health.
